Values Matter
Values Matter Miami: Building Character Together at Kendale Elementary School
At our school, we believe that academic excellence goes hand-in-hand with strong character. As part of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Values Matter Miami initiative, we dedicate each month to a specific core value. These traits are integrated into daily lessons, classroom discussions, and our school-wide culture.
Monthly Core Values
Each month, our students and staff dive deep into one of the following nine values:
| Month | Core Value | What it Looks Like |
| September | Respect | Treating others the way you want to be treated. |
| October | Responsibility | Being accountable for your actions and choices. |
| November | Citizenship | Helping your community and being a good neighbor. |
| December | Fairness | Playing by the rules and being open-minded. |
| January | Pursuit of Excellence | Doing your best and never giving up. |
| February | Kindness | Being helpful and caring toward others. |
| March | Cooperation | Working together to reach a common goal. |
| April | Honesty | Being truthful in what you say and do. |
| May | Integrity | Doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. |
Celebrating Our “Mighty Tigers”
To honor students who go above and beyond in practicing these values, we host our monthly Mighty Tigers Awards.
- Recognition: One student from each class who best exemplifies the month’s trait is selected for the award.
- Student Voice: In our 4th and 5th-grade classrooms, we empower our student leaders to take part in the process! Upper-grade students have the opportunity to nominate their peers who they see living out the monthly value.
- Celebration: Award winners are recognized school-wide and receive a “Mighty Tigers” certificate to take home.
Note to Parents: We encourage you to discuss these values at home! When school and home speak the same language of character, our “Mighty Tigers” truly thrive.
